Chitrkar was housed in a rented property which we had to vacate in January 2010. Since than we have scaled down our activities and have decided to organize events at public venues.
200+ events were organized at Chitrkar premises.
We have produced 120 audio recordings of contemporary classical musicians, lectures on music and poetry recitals; plus a 27 hours audio recording of complete epic 'Heer Ranjha' by renowned Punjabi poet Waris Shah, traditional recital by Liaqat Inayat & accompanied on flute by Akmal Qadri. The Chitrkar recordings are available on net and audio CD's would be produced.
Lahore Chitrkar 2001 -2012
Lahore Chitrkar is a registered non-profit, non-commercial organization founded in 2001 by a group of painters, dancers, musicians, architects and writers. The primary activity of the Lahore Chitrkar centers around a working studio and gallery where artistic skills are learnt, shared and exhibited.
The ongoing programs 2001-2010 included 14 art, music, yoga and dance classes taught by 14 renowned professionals and there were on average 150+ registered students.
Three week art, music & theater workshops for children were held each summer 2001-2010.
Monthly classical music concerts (100+ concerts), lectures/discussions on art making, training workshops for both children & adults, and art exhibitions were a permanent feature of the Chitrkar cultural calendar. 200+ events were organized.
Lahore Chitrkar attaches great value to awareness of our cultural heritage as a part of art training. Tradition is valued not as convention and formula but as an artistic response structured in a local body of expressions and forms. This artistic heritage provides a formal reference and context for further exploration and artistic innovation.
